• Early Life


Baby Halder was born in Kashmir in 1973 but her family later migrated to West Bengal. Her early age was full of violence, far from peace. Her family was struggling due to poverty and domestic violence. Her father was abusive towards his family and he had an addiction of alcohol. Baby's mother abandoned her family when baby was just five years old because of his father's behaviour. After her mother abandoned the family, her father married another woman. Later she was raised by her father and step mother but they were careless towards the baby. Baby was forced to do housework instead of studies like other children. She wants to study and had curiosity to learn. She studied only upto sixth grade. But because of poverty and no family support she had to quit her studies.


• Early marriage and Early motherhood


Baby was forced to marry at just a little age of twelve with a man who was fourteen years older than him. Her husband was abusive and violent towards her. Baby's role was just to do households, obey her husband without any questions and born children. She had a child at just the age of fourteen. Some years later she had two more children. By adulthood she was the mother of three children with neither any education nor financially independent. Her daily life was to survive from the violence of her husband and raise the children. She was usually mentally harassed by his husband and physically beaten too, her life was too hard to survive.


• Journey of becoming author


In her mid-tweenties, she left her house with her three children and went to Delhi and she used to domestic work like cleaning and cooking to earn some money. Her journey of author started when she met Parbodh Kumar, who was a retired teacher and grandson of famous writer Munshi Premchand. He saw curiosity inside the baby towards the book and he gave her books to read. Later he offered her to write books. Then she started writing about her early age, her trauma and the struggle she suffered from. Her first book was published 2002 whose name was Aalo Aandhari. Just after the release the book gained popularity later it was translated into Urvashi Buatalia whose title was "A Life Less Ordinary". The journey from a domestic work to a recognised female author was full of struggle and hardwork.
