• Early Life
Baby Halder was born in Kashmir in 1973, but her family later migrated to West Bengal. Her early age was full of violence, far from peace. Her family was struggling due to poverty and domestic violence. Her father was abusive towards his family, and he had an addiction to alcohol. Baby's mother abandoned her family when the baby was just five years old because of her father's behaviour. After her mother abandoned the family, her father married another woman. Later, she was raised by her father and stepmother, but they were careless towards the baby. The baby was forced to do housework instead of studies like other children. She wanted to study and had a curiosity to learn. She studied only up to sixth grade. But because of poverty and no family support, she had to quit her studies.

• Journey of becoming an author
In her mid-twenties, she left her house with her three children and went to Delhi, and she used to do domestic work like cleaning and cooking to earn some money. Her journey of becoming an author started when she met Parbodh Kumar, who was a retired teacher and the grandson of the famous writer Munshi Premchand. Prabodh Kumar was not only a retired teacher but also a retired anthropology professor who encouraged Baby Halder to read newspapers and books before suggesting she write her life story. He saw curiosity inside Baby towards books, and he gave her books to read. Later, he offered her to write books. Then she started writing about her early age, her trauma and the struggle she suffered from. Her first book was published in 2002, whose name was Aalo Aandhari. Just after the release, the book gained popularity, and it was later translated by Urvashi Butalia, whose title was "A Life Less Ordinary". The journey from a domestic worker to a recognised female author was full of struggle and hard work. She regularly travels across India to speak at literary festivals and women’s conferences, sharing her experiences of child marriage, domestic violence, and women's empowerment through writing. Scholars and critics have written analyses of her autobiography, focusing on class, gender and caste.
